PRESIDENT’S POST – New Year Message 2017

As 2016 fades and 2017 looms closer, it is great to reflect on what the year has been for us and explore what opportunities lie ahead in the new year.

No matter whether you are a one man show or part of a corporation, all businesses face a variety of challenges each day. For the most part, 2016 has certainly been another year of tough trading conditions within our local region, and at times it is hard to see the way forward. There have also been many positives as well, with a strong Sugar season now completed and good prices remaining, a stable season for Bananas with prices remaining steady, a new regional council elected who have provided a revitalised drive for change, and no adverse weather events to speak of. (thankfully)

We do have many things to be grateful for in the Cassowary Coast region with a strong sense of community, tolerance towards our fellow man, and a determined business attitude, just to name a few.

The Cassowary District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has been actively involved in our business community throughout 2016, with monthly general meetings each third Tuesday of the month, and open to all business owners, operators and interested parties. We have heard from some great business and have listened to presentations from various business sectors within our community. We have sponsored community events such as the Christmas evening, and we continue to support the 2017 Feast of The Senses, which promises to be the greatest one to date.

Personally, since being elected President in October 2016, I have attended several meetings including the Cassowary Coast Economic Development Committee, represented the IDCCIT on the Rates Reference Group, which was an initiative of the CCRC, and spoke to various businesses regarding the challenges facing them in this community. And this is where you come in.

As a business owner or operator, the Innisfail District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism provides you with a source of business networks, a forum to promote your ideas, a platform to air your concerns, a consolidated voice to our council and government leaders, and an opportunity to enhance your business outlook within this community and to wider a field. It starts with you

The IDCCIT is only ever going to achieve what is can with your involvement, it will only be as successful as it can be with your direction, and it will only continue with your ownership. So, as we all ponder our New Year’s resolutions for 2017, one of yours should be to” revitalise your membership in the Chamber, or become a new member”. Either way, you will have a real voice in this community, a real say in how the future is shaped, and a sense of personal ownership that you made a difference.

Our next general meeting will be held on the 21st February 2017 at a venue yet to be advised. Simply check out this WEBSITE for further details.

On behalf of the Chamber, I wish you all a safe, happy and prosperous New Year, and may we all look forward to exploring and implementing the future opportunities together, for 2017 and beyond.

We live in a great part of this world……………..lets work together to keep it that way. “SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL”

Cheers for now
