MAYOR’S COLUMN – NOVEMBER 14, 2017

The spotlight has been shining on the students at Innisfail State College, Tully High School and Good Counsel College with all three recently hosting their annual achievement awards ceremonies. The commitment of our hardworking educators is evident in helping many of our students achieve outstanding results. It’s been a pleasure to see these talented young people succeed through dedication and sheer hard work.

The last few weeks have been extremely busy in the Cassowary Coast with a number of community events taking place. The Mission Beach Aquatic Festival (resurrected for the first time in nine years) proved to be a resounding success with many people taking part in the water and beach based activities. The event attracted many people from outside our region and showcased the beauty that is Mission Beach.

A record crowd attended the Innisfail Annual Race Carnival and many visitors enjoyed the convenience of staying in our historic town centre. The economic benefits that these and other events contribute to our region is significant providing a number of opportunities for employment and small businesses.

Finally, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Australia Day Award nominations are now being accepted. Take this opportunity to honour an unsung hero by nominating someone you know who deserves recognition for their contribution to our community.
